I was commenting on a Facebook entry,* and remembered a game I used to play.

Years ago, a very good friend of mine and I used to hold semi-regular dinner parties. One day we were having a particularly difficult time trying to get the guest list right. It seemed like there was at least one major personality conflict in nearly every group we tried to put together. This led down the path that so many things did - making a game for our own amusement by taking the situation to its logical extreme. We started to come up with the worst possible combinations of people. Not that we ever would have subjected people to it, but it fun to think about. There were two rules to the game. 1) The invitees had to be people we knew and liked. 2) The invitees had to be people we would genuinely want to have to dinner (or at least their spouse, or significant other.)

I had forgotten all about that.

* What is the LJ Facebook crossover etiquette? Does one link, mention names, etc?

Yesterday, I found out that I'll be back in Seattle the first week of May. The exact dates are TBD, but definitely that first week. I want to schedule a night to go out on the town and see as many people as I can. Where are people going out these days, and what is the better weekend night?

I find it humorous that I grew up outside Seattle, and never managed to try my hand at skiing. I move to the east coast, spend a weekend in Vermont, and suddenly am struck with an urge to take up the sport.

Perhaps learning to ski is a bit of a misnomer. The activity may best be described as learning to hurl myself at the ground with boards strapped to my feet. I'm bad at the sport. No, I'm not bad, I'm spectacularly awful. As in I fall over while standing still, and fall every time I pick up any sped at all. I can't turn, and I can not stop unless I purposely fall.

I'm thinking of trying again next year just because I've never failed at something so completely.

For years I've had my eye on froggy wellingtons, and now they are mine.

I'm not saying that 'm quitting smoking, but yesterday was 12 days without so much as a puff off of a cigarette - a personal record of which I am very proud.  Last night I took a cigarette out to the office roof deck, and lit up. I took all of three drags before putting it out because it tasted the way an old ashtray smells. Afterword, I had to rinse my mouth out and eventually find mints because the leftover flavor was so foul.

This is a new experience, and gives me hope that I can master my habit.

Don't get me wrong.  I still have the the urge - when people light up in front of me I want to french-kiss them just to suck the smoke out of their lungs.

I just had the most amazing dessert, and other than yummy, I have no idea what it is called.

It was a bar that seemed to be toasted coconut, honey, and rose water. I tried googling the ingredients, but could find nothing definitive.

Oh! It was so good.
